HSM, UMT Partnered in International Conference in Sri Lanka

Dr Hasan Murad School of Management (HSM), UMT has achieved another milestone by becoming a partner in organizing an international conference with University of Ruhuna, Matara, Sri Lanka. Faculty of Management and Finance (FMF), University of Ruhuna, one of the leading Management faculties in Sri Lanka annually organizes the international conference on management and economics (ICME) with the objective of creating a strong intellectual platform for academics, researchers and practitioners to exchange their knowledge in the field of Management and Economics. This year 8th ICME was organized based on the theme of “Navigating Cyberspace for Socio-economic Transformation and Redefining Management in Light of Digital Economy”. Conference was held on the 15th and 16th of August 2019 at Weligama Bay Marriott Resort, Sri Lanka. It is part of vision and mission of HSM to foster internationalization and enhance its research collaboration with national and international business schools. Keeping this target in mind HSM faculty is actively involved in exploring the opportunities to enhance its regional connectivity and collaboration with top business schools in the region to ameliorate overall quality research output. Dr. Amer Saeed Assistant Professor, HSM taken the initiative to communicate with University of Ruhuna for research collaboration. After initial negotiations a partnership proposal from the University of Ruhuna was approved by the worthy rector UMT for 8th ICME 2019. As per agreement, HSM faculty actively participated in the review process as all submitted papers in the conference gone through a double blind peer review process. Also nine papers by faculty members and MS students were accepted for presentation. A two member delegation from HSM, UMT comprising Dr. Amer Saeed Assistant Professor, HSM and Dr. Haris Aslam Assistant Professor, HSM represented UMT in the conference and presented their research papers. Five students presented their research papers through online presentation as well. During the inaugural session Vice Chancellor University of Ruhuna, Professor Sujeewa Amarasena, while welcoming international participants especially welcome and appreciated the participation of UMT from Pakistan as a knowledge partner in the conference. He recalled his visit to Pakistan and strong friendly relationships between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. He emphasized on promoting and strengthening the knowledge sharing relationships between universities of the region.

Dean FMF, Dr. Gunawardana, T.S.L.W has also praised the timely contribution of UMT faculty in peer review process and the number of research papers submitted by the faculty and students of HSM in the conference. He also shown keen interest to strengthen knowledge partnership between the two universities by finalizing student and faculty exchange programs. He promised to join along with his faculty members to upcoming International conference on Business and Management (ICoBM) being organized by the HSM, UMT.

The conference was a great success as more than sixty research papers in seven different conference tracks were presented. A large number of students, faculty members of different universities and senior managers from the industry were among the attendees. At the end of conference souvenirs were exchanges where Dr. Amer Saeed, coordinator ICME 2019 from UMT presented souvenirs to Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dean FMF and conference secretary from University of Ruhuna.
