BS Operations and Supply Chain Management

Introduction Program Summary Program Structure

During the last two semesters, working in industry is the integral part of specialization courses. As a part of the specialization course requirement, each student is required to spend time in the industry in the areas related to the specialization courses. Students bring back their knowledge to the classes during the latter half of the courses. This process not only increases the participant’s practical exposure to the industrial problems but also enriches the class discussion.

Operations and Supply Chain Management are the areas that have broad application in businesses and present a variety of career options. Graduates of this program along with getting better equipped to start their own business can apply to an array of jobs in the areas such as purchasing/procurement, production planning, warehousing, supply chain, logistics, and distribution functions.

In the backdrop of CPEC, Pakistan is about to face enormous construction, logistical, bureaucratic, and manpower challenges. CPEC is estimated to be worth more than $46 billion in terms of construction costs. It includes projects such as a rail link connecting Gwadar to the western Chinese city of Kashgar. Other projects include widening of Karakoram highway, upgrading Gwadar airport, building a 125-mile tunnel linking the two countries; and upgrading a number of existing highways, including the Karachi-Lahore section. Furthermore, a number of energy projects, worth about $34 billion will also be constructed. These include pipelines to transport oil and gas to Kashgar, the completion of the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, and a number of coal, wind, solar, and hydro energy plants that would add some 10,000 megawatts to energy-starved Pakistan by 2018. Timely completion of these projects will require experts in all disciplines. It is estimated that CPEC will help create more than 700,000 jobs in the next 15-year time. Through BS OSCM, University of Management and Technology has taken the initiative to develop the managers to cater for the different challenges faced by the country in areas such as operations, logistics, and project management.
