HSM Doctoral Conference 2023 - The Sustainable Development Goals and Doctoral Research

Dr Hasan Murad School of Management (HSM) at the University of Management and Technology (UMT) organized HSM Doctoral Conference - The Sustainable Development Goals and Doctoral Research. The conference was held on March 2-3, 2023. The aim of the conference was capacity building of PhD and MS students to align their research with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conference provided PhD and MS students with an opportunity to present, discuss, and receive feedback from academic experts regarding their submitted papers and their ongoing research work.

Dr Naveed Yazdani, Dean HSM - UMT welcomed the participants at the opening session of the HSM Doctoral Conference 2023.

He discussed the inspiration behind the HSM Doctoral Conference as well as Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad's (late) remembrance and vision, who established UMT and was the conference's main proponent.

Dr Farrah Arif, Associate Dean HSM, also addressed the opening session of the HSM Doctoral Conference 2023. She discussed the Sustainable Development Goals and their importance in the context of Pakistan.

Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, Chairperson - Punjab Higher Education Commission-PHEC, addressed the HSM Doctoral Conference 2023 as a Chief Guest. He emphasized how crucial it is for doctoral students to choose research topics that are impactful in the context of Pakistan. He also listed a few prominent areas where research is required to improve the economy of Pakistan.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha, was invited as a Guest of Honor at the HSM Doctoral Conference 2023. He shared examples of Pakistani academic best practices for conducting valuable and influential doctoral research.

The CEO of Abacus Consulting Technology Limited, Fatima Asad-Said, spoke as a keynote speaker at the HSM Doctoral Conference 2023.

She shared the industry perspective on doctoral research.

Panel discussion was held on the topic "Sustainable Development Goals and Doctoral Research: Comparing Global and Local Practices".

At the closing session of the HSM Doctoral Conference 2023: The Sustainable Development Goals and Doctoral Research, Mr. Abid Sherwani, Director General, University of Management and Technology (UMT), shared that industry and academia together should push policymakers to implement solutions to the pressing issues faced by the country.
