HSM-UMT Launches MS Higher Education Leadership and Management Program

The Dr Hasan Murad School of Management (HSM) at the University of Management and Technology (UMT) has officially launched the MS Higher Education Leadership and Management (MS HELM) program. This initiative reaffirms HSM’s enduring commitment to academic excellence, leadership development, and innovation in Pakistan’s evolving higher education landscape.
Mr. Ibrahim Hasan Murad, Chairman and President of UMT, honored the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, he underscored the pressing need to reimagine leadership in Pakistan’s higher education system. He emphasized the importance of cultivating leaders who are equipped to manage complexity, inspire innovation, and build resilient academic institutions. His address reflected a deep institutional commitment to nurturing visionary, agile, and ethical educational leaders.

Dr. Asif Raza, Rector UMT, highlighted the strategic importance of the MS HELM program in strengthening the future of higher education in Pakistan. He emphasized how the program equips education professionals with a forward-looking mindset, strategic capabilities, and the adaptability needed to thrive in a rapidly transforming academic ecosystem.

Dr. Naveed Yazdani, Dean HSM, introduced the MS HELM program and shared the academic vision behind it. He elaborated on how the program has been designed to produce thoughtful, impact-driven leaders for the education sector. With a strong focus on evidence-based decision-making, research-driven insights, and real-world applications, the program aims to foster leadership that is principled, pragmatic, and progressive.

The event also featured an engaging panel discussion moderated by Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi, Provost UMT and Program Mentor, on the theme “Developing Leadership Pipelines in Higher Education.” Esteemed panelists included:

- Dr. Naveed Malik, Founding Rector, Virtual University
- Dr. Yasira Waqar, Dean, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, UMT
- Dr. Atif Alvi, Dean, School of Systems and Technology, UMT
Together, the panelists shared insights on the opportunities and challenges facing educational leadership in Pakistan. Their discourse emphasized the importance of nurturing a new generation of leaders who can harmonize innovation with tradition, ensuring sustainability and relevance in the sector.
